I got the red snake tattoo last week (Tues August 3rd). Yesterday after I showered I noticed two of the scabs on my tattoo washed off. I thought the red spots were the ink but I think it’s my raw skin underneath. And tattoo, after I showered a little bit more of my tattoo, is peeling. It doesn’t hurt. I didn’t aggressively wash my tattoo, I’ve been keeping it moisturized but not oversaturated and I have not picked any of my scabs. I’m not sure what to do, not sure if I messed up my tattoo or not 😅

well, I've never watched a red tattoo heal before and the red "shading" makes it a little harder to see if there's any inflammation, but there are definitely some angry areas around the outline. That leads me to think that there was probably a bit of overworking. Since those two spots were "solid" red they probably got overworked a little more (red ink is easy to overwork) and maybe got excessively scabbed.

Either way, those two spots are definitely going to need touched up. Otherwise peeling is normal. Regardless of how much you wash though, you always want to protect the tattoo from continued exposure to water. Chances are that while showering those scabs got over saturated and came off with minimal rubbing.

Did you use vaseline to protect your tattoo before showering? This shouldn't happen, scabs that fall off too early (when the skin clearly is NOT yet healed) are prone to infections. You should now use a good disinfection cream whilst you have these open wounds.

I would stop with any moisturizer and let it dry out. Give it a gentil wash every day with unscented soap.

That my friend is called scratching a tattoo. It's a combination of that and whoever did the tattoo going too deep.
