I've tattooed colour a few times now, I'm an apprentice but I've never had a problem with my clients before, they've never contacted me during the healing process and so I'm not sure what it's supposed to look like and I only have my own tattoos to go off of that were a while ago! I've seen them healed and they look fine.
She sent me this photo, it's about 3/4 days old now and I'm concerned about the scabbing on the right, unfortunately I think I overworked the area but we're both worried it could be infected? I always use sterile equipment and single use everything, throw my gloves away when I need to take a sip of drink or touch any other surface other than my machine or the clients skin. When she sent me a photo yesterday it seemed like she'd put too much ointment on the area and so I told her to keep cleansing it and apply a little bit of ointment when it started to feel dry. What can I do? I asked my mentor too but he's not replied yet. I normally am very light handed and have never had a problem before. Photo here: https://uploadpie.com/5cGqGG

dont know but this greenish colour looks like it wasn't part of your colour palette for that tatoo, never experience something like that

My mentor replied to me and said it looks overworked to him. Unfortunately against my advice it appeared to have been smothered in cocoa butter which has made the top layer weird. He recommended me to tell my client to keep it clean and dry and only apply ointment if it feels tight and dry. I've asked her to stay in touch with me so we can work it together and if it gets any worse over the next few days I'll definitely be recommending her to go to her Doctor. I've never had this before.

Overworking doesn't usually make that yellow/green crust. But I'm guessing cocoa butter could? Could be a combo of both as can see that top line by the ear has been overworked a bit

I’d say definitely overworked, did you advise them on which cream to put on it ,or did they just decide by themselves to put coco butter on it

Thank you. I give my clients a sachet of purple ink eeze to put on, I use cocoa butter or ink eeze during the process but she decided to use it when she got home. I always tell them to use a tiny bit but in the first photo she sent it looked pretty saturated unfortunately.

Nothing wrong with using cocoa butter for tattoos. Or cold pressed coconut oil which I prefer as it's more handy (to me, as I haven't found any cocoa butter creams in Sweden).

The amount she puts on definitely is important though, and no cream of any kind will be good if it's too thick a layer.

Yeah, to me an overworked area grabs a lot of things when trying to get better. The skin being giving cocoa butter, it could totally have tried to absorb this moisture, hence the strange color

Peace,
