My husband had a tattoo just under a week ago on his hand, it seems to of gone very scaley, red and rashy and very dry and sore. . I can send a picture but I can't seem to upload it.. Does anybody know what would help as its pushing all of the colour out from the shaded areas, however the middle of the tattoo has taken really well..

Is he putting anything on it? Is it painful?

He used bepanthen, then we ran out so he used a bit of sudocrem, then he use mentium ointment as it was the only thing that stopped it burning and itching.. We then brought more bepanthen and he put it on and said it was burning so he straight away washed it off.. It looks very painful, he's had tattoos before and they've never done that especially with bepanthen

few things here, hand toottoos fade commonly around the knuckes and perimeter of the hand, and very often need touching up. A pudgey hand will hold ink well and heal well, a thin skinned and/or leathery hand won't fair so well. Sometimes people over cream tattoos to the point where it's impossible for them to heal, also bepanthan has changed their formula recently and there is a lot of anecdotal evidence of people saying it now stings.

Yeah I've heard some bad things about Bepanthan making tattoos go bad. On mine I use Hustle Butter, Tattoo Goo or Butterluxe but I think Cocoa Butter is also good.

Sudo cream is a barrier cream so I don't think that will be good for a tattoo either.

It sounds like it may be infected if it's red and painful (especially if it's getting worse)? If he can't see a gp it may be worth popping into a chemist to get their opinion or going to an out of hours clinic. From experience I know it's good to get on top of an infection asap.

Maybe have a look on here: Home

I've not used it but I know some that has and he said it's good. It's an online GP service.

I hope he gets it sorted.

Ok I phoned Bayer the makers of bepanthen and they told me the formula is the same from 2016 that’s when his data was last update and there going to find out if it was changed previous to this date and will get back to me so there you have it

I use only Bepanthen and give my clients an inkcup full of it when they leave so they can get through the day (and get some of their own, a new package!). I never had anyone complain about stinging or anything like that. The only complaint I ever got was when someone applied new layers over the previous one without cleaning the tat and letting it dry, it got thick, painful and bumpy because he trapped all the old stuff in the new layers.
