Dettol is a trademark that has different products ... I use a couple of them ... and yes the disinfectant is good ...
you also can use it for the stencil ... I use the soap (with lavender) too, instead of green soap

In short .. yes, you can use Dettol ;-)

Yep, am using the same, dettol antiseptic, watered down 3/4 water 1/4 dettol, also have another antiseptic from boots, their own stuff, goes on 100%, no need to dilute, also says its can even be used as a mouthwash, havent tried it tho lol, use the dettol soap to, read the ingredients, and sounds quite similar to green soap, do using that while i wait for my online orders to arrive.

Hi guys, I know I'm reviving a 5 year old thread, but are the thoughts still the same on this? I'm gonna do a small piece on myself this week to test my depth/speed and have dettol, small spray bottles to use and some heal it soap for after the job. So, 3/4 water 1/4 dettol to clean before, and heal it solution after? Or can I use dettol after too?

Thanks

In my experience, dettol after is a nono during open skin, it stings like a mother, (I did it first time on myself). I use prop alcohol 95% to clean first then green soap during and to wipe down at the end. After that just Bepanthen ointment.

Ha ha, yeah, didn't think about how much it would sting on open skin. Oops....
Ok cool, thanks Daz. I'll grab some 95% and order some green soap.

Thanks mate

Also, is there any reason tattoo artists choose green soap over, say, regular anti-bac soap? Not looking to cut corners or anything, just genuinely interested in knowing.... ?

I still use dettol to put a stencil on to the skin, also use it to clean the tattoo during and after,to be honest it put the customer at ease knowing that your area smells fresh and clean I also use green soap if I’m low on dettol,I always use dettol in my rinse cups.one dettol one just plain water.
Who ever done the AJ course will remember his green soap mix

A lot of artists use Castille Soap in place of Green Soap. I use Dr. Bronner's Castille Soap in Peppermint just because it smells clean and that is what was commonly recommended.
