hey- I'm cleaning and sterilizing (or re-sterilizing in some cases) my equipment before I open my studio tomorrow. Noticed some of the tubes that have been sitting (I've been using disposables while I waited to get an autoclave) have some rust. How finicky do I need to be with this? Throw them out? Rub it all out with steel wool? Don't worry too much because it's not the part that comes close to skin?

you're opening a studio tomorrow? Fruit to studio...that's awesome.

probably don't want rusty equipment. Rust can be removed but it will leave groves everyplace you remove it. If you're autoclaving you're ok with the grooves.

I say throw them out. Better safe than sorry. You don't want those contaminates any where near while you tattoo. We as Tattoo Artists deal with a lot to stay clean and sterile. The last thing you want is something else to deal with. If by chance your health inspector see's anything but pristine tubes, he could fine you. That's my 2 cents worth. Also keep autoclave sterilization records onsite. Very cool you are opening a studio, congrats. My partner and I are slowly getting ours ready.

I'm autoclaving... I'm gonna see if I can get it out with steel wool.

Haha, well, to be clear... I've done about 35 tattoos on real people. Like I said I tattooed every day in May, and then I went to trade school and tattooed people there... the fruit was to stay limber and keep learning while I got everything set up to regulations here. It's a private studio in my home, I'll send pics when I address my tube issue and tidy up a bit

Occurs to me that if this were actually stainless steel it would probably not be discoloring like this...

Thanks! Yes, I remember now about the autoclave record, learned about that in training. Thanks for the reminder. Good luck with your studio!
