I recently bought a bishop wand shader and when I Install a cartridge the needles poke out to far and don't go into the tube. Is this right because it doesn't happen on my wand liner. I haven't used the shader yet for this reason I want to know if it's ok first before I use it.

Can you adjust the amount of hang out of the tube by twisting/turning one end of the machine?
I don't own a Bishop Wand, but that is how other machines work.

It sounds like there might be an issue with your Bishop Wand Shader. The needles should not be poking out too far and not going into the tube. This is not normal, and it could indicate a problem with the machine or the cartridge. It's best not to use the shader until you can figure out what's causing the issue.

One thing I can say about the packer, is that with some carts it pops the back depresser on the cart into the body of the cart, resulting in the needles jammed out. It’s the minority of carts I’ve used but this problem is consistent. I now use all Ghost Hex, Cheyenne, Bishop Da Vinci, Dragonhawk (for practise) and Kwadron, without any issues. Not sure if this is the same problem

It has happened to me too.

But:

The difference between two carts. On the left I adjusted the machine so that the needle point just gets to the tip of cart tube.
With unchanged machine settings, you can see on the right how much the needle sticks out with another cart.
Left cart is made by Mast, right cart is a Rhein.

Just basic difference in how a cart is manufactured. Some will work great in one machine while others won't.
Some machines will accept almost any cart, while another machine won't.
There's just no general rule, apart from trial and error.

I use Ghost Hex carts most of the time and even with the same brand and same needle size (7M for example) the needle protrusion differs from cart to cart and I have to re-check my throw setting for every cart I insert…it’s annoying but I know to do it now.

I line with my needle starting position just showing outside the tip, meaning I have (on Bishop Packer) 4.2mm of needle showing when running. For packing I have around 2-2.5mm needle showing when running. You would think this problem of the needle depressed getting stuck in the cart would be more likely with my liner carts but in fact it happens more often with my packing carts. Strange.

Never has happened to me, maybe I'm lucky, curious.
