Using my new pen machine with a 7RL with 2mm-3mm of needle hanging out and practicing doing straight vertical lines on some fake skin and been getting this issue that occurs only sometimes and not quite sure what is causing it.

The problem I’m having is when in the process of doing my vertical lines the needle seems like it is bouncing depths as I can feel it forcing my hand to bounce. It’s going up and down in depths since I can feel it during the duration of my lining - Anyone know what is causing this? It’s nothing to do with stretch or fake skin sticking to the needle.

What's the thickness of your fake skin? If it's 1 mm, you should have something soft below it to avoid the needle bouncing off the table, if that's the case. I use the typical carton envelopes from amazon packaging below it, works great.

Not sure if carts do this or not? But maybe if your pulling your vertical lines it's because the needle is bouncing away from the back of the tube. Try pushing your lines. If it doesn't happen horizontally, that's my guess.

Yes the thickness of fake skin is 1mm. I already have a thick mousepad and multiple skins and paper towels under it aswell.

Anyone else experience the same issue as me or know what is causing this?

update:
I did more testing and found that the needle bouncing up and down happens when I line very SLOW when doing vertical lines, when I line faster than I should be it doesn’t seem to happen. I’m not sure what is causing this. Could it be from my hands shaking ever so slightly + the vibrations + the slow lining speed?

Anyone else had similar experience? Or know what causing this? I just hope it is not a machine issue though my machine is new.

If you are using a pen machine, are you using a good quality cartridge as cheap Amazon type cartridges can be of poor quality, before you insert the cartridge press the plunger of the cart and see how much play there is in the needle/ tube tip, I have seen some which have had an unacceptable amount of play in them, that is the reason why some artists choose one brand for lining and a different brand for shading, some even use different brands for round shaders and mags
Yes I am using cartridge and a good brand. It’s nothing to do with the cartridge needle.

Do you think it is my rotary pen is broken? Or it is something to do with me?

I am left handed so when I am doing vertical lines from left to right it seems like I feel that my hand/needle is being forced to bounce going up and down in depth like bouncing along when lining and it seems to happen when I go very slow, though I am keeping my hand steady. Unless it’s the gloves causing friction when sliding my hand. Have to test tomorrow and see.

If anyone knows or experienced same please let me know what it is.

1mm skin...that's the challenge.

go tattoo a banana, or grapefruit and see if it bounces the same. My guess is that suddenly it will work properly without all the bouncing. I could be wrong

Attach an appropriate needle tube to the tattoo gun. Insert the needle bar into the tube and fit the end ring of the needle bar over the rubber grommet on the armature bar. Loop a rubber band around the tattoo gun, encircling the back of the frame and the front of the needle bar, to cut down on vibration and lateral movement of the needle bar.
F'n solid advice right here...that's the voice of experience setting you straight.
