Hi guys,

I've had reactions to some red inks in the past and am reacting to the Intenze Bowery Red I use on myself. Luckily there's no blistering or any of that nasty stuff, mostly itching and bad healing in some spots. The red parts are raised and itchy and the black lines next to them are really light.

Easiest would probably be to just not use red of course, but, well I like red :D
Now I know not every red in my tattoos caused reactions so I am looking for an alternative red(like) ink to use.

Do any of you guys have experience with allergic reactions to reds and know of inks that work for "red challenged" people like me? Or maybe places where I can get sample sets to test with?

Thanks!

I've known a few people to have the same reaction from red ink from certain brands.
I've been using "Fusions - Really Red" for a while now which seems to be working good on those people with no reactions.

I had a client have it with Intenze magenta.

I've heard you can tattoo the area with witch hazel and it breaks up the pigments and the body can push them out. Never tried it.

@GLink Thanks, someone else also recommended Fusion so I'm going to get me a bottle and give it a try.

@TexasPT Luckily my reaction is very mild so I don't need to get rid of the ink. But it's a good tip to know, just in case. (y)

@TexasPT Ended up ordering Witch Hazel anyway so tattooed the itchy red parts with it yesterday.
Immediately started oozing red and there's a bit of a scab on it now (never had that on any of my self tattoos before). Since it's red I don't know if it's blood or ink but I am curious to see how it looks (and feels) in a week or so.

This is the CTL for heavy metals in Intenze Bowery Red .

Perhaps the info will help you assess at which levels you react to the pigments, or future pigments.

Chemical Technology Lab Certificates

Material Data Safety Sheet

And to help identify certain problem ingredients you may find in other pigments you react to, or may react to.

@dirtnail :
I'm glad to help!
I'm surprised they didn't provide you with it. But for future reference for you, if you know some other pigments you have a reaction to, If you visit their website they have the MSDS and CTL links on every pigment's selling page/ you can download the list of every one they sell.
