Hi Guys,

just a quick post, I have a tattoo coming up that requires me to blend Green into Red.

Now i have been thinking about this, and i foresee a problem. When the green blends into the red, it will (maybe) blend to make a not wanted brown.

So it will look like

Red -> Brown -> Green

whereas i want it

Red -> Green

Obviously, I do not want any brown in the blend.

Is there a technique to encounter this, or am i just being too picky?

I have (not tried) heard that this type of blending happens even if you do it over two sessions (after complete heal).

Any advise will be more than welcome!!!

THanks

you can use a flat shader and feather the edge, then turn the voltage down a touch for the second colour, have a couple of ink pots set up and keep washing your needle, once it begins to get a tinge of brown, wash out your needle and go to the next ink pot discarding the previous one. It can be done, just take your time and keep washing your needle.

Get some practice skin....

Draw a box or some sort of area to fill that easy.... divide into 3 (in your mind or very faint lines)

Get the green solid fill just over a 3rd of the area and then whip shade into and just over the 2nd 3rd.

Clean needles

Get the red solid fill just over the 3rd part (mostly empty part that you left) and then whip into and just over the 2nd 3rd towards the green... that's the best your gonna get really.

With normal blends if you can, usually you try to avoid cleaning the needles but as you want to cut down the actual colour mix as much as poss then clean between colour change

It won't work. Basic color theory. Green is the contrasting color to red....

I understand what you are saying, but it needs to work, and there is plenty of art that blends green and red (or the illusion), so it is possible.

I need to go down the route of a illusion to make it look like it is blended using the tips above, luckily for me, the areas that need blending are quite tight (5-8mm).

Thank you for the thoughts GazB and DJHicks, I can appreciate I need to avoid actually blending the colours. I think whipping until before i see any brown, and cleaning with the ultrasound before brown appears, and not overlapping too much (not at all), should give me the effect I need. I can work on it after if some areas need extra.

I am doing this on Sunday i will reply here and let you know the outcome. I am going to dig out some old practice skin on Saturday to give it a go, although it is horrible medium to work with, but it would be a good idea to give it a go, before jumping in.

Thanks for all the ideas and input!!

great chart troub1edsou1z, i not seen that before.

You can make it work if you use more colors like... Green to Orange to Red. Fake the eye into the fade to red. If you go right from green to red you will get brown in the middle between the green and red. Depending on the green you are using you could go from green to a dark yellow to orange to red. If your fade is smooth it will look as though the green fades into the red.

Tubs is absolutely right. You can do it with just the two colors ,but it will look awkward and not natural. Even in small spaces you just have to take your time but whip shade those other transitional colors for a smooth gradation.

Or......do it in 2 sessions!

Do one colour (lightest first) then allow a healing period, then on the second session you can whip that second colour right in without any issues.
