first time here
this may be posted before so sorry if im being redundant
ive been getting into tattooing for a couple of weeks now and im having an issue with getting the ink to stay, i tried coloring these little tiangles on my hand but it started scabbing and when it fell off, nearly no ink was left underneath..
one thing that i taught could be the issue is that my coil machines are shitty ones (chinese machines out of a starter kit :/ ) or the ink itself might be low quality
now i dont have a color packer setup yet, i do have a shader setup which seemed to be working fairly decent when i tried it on some fake skin

also i was using a 15m2 needle in a 9f tip on approximately 6V

if ink doesn't stay, you're not putting it in. It isn't the machines, the needles, the ink, or even the rotation of the earth around the sun...it's just poor technique. Polynesian islanders put strong black work into skin with ash and bone...even a crappy chinese machine performs better than bone in almost all situations beyond skeletal function.

slow your roll, study the art and the mechanics and technique needed to be proficient, and then go after your thighs so you don't walk around with crap tattoos on your hands for the rest of your life. Go premium...you'll get a lot of knowledge out of this site.

I have to agree with Mark, practice first make sure that ink is going in or the skin on your arm will just throw it straight out.
Learn about your machines.
learn about the preparation and hygiene
learn about needles and depth
learn about speed and angle of needles
learn to tune the machines, even cheap Chinese kit machines will work if tuned ok.
and definitely, try your thighs before hitting places that everyone can see.

above all, do not touch human skin until you have got some time in on pigskin or rubber, or even fruit. you can replace all those, you can not replace hamburger meat that used to be your skin.

apart from that, Nice to meet you Michiel (y), try premium, it sounds a daunting here in little snippets but you will find it is best explained and better to learn more in that section, in fact, everything you will need to know.

thanks guys, good to know its me that's shitty and not the equipment , ill get back to some studying then.
i know i shouldn't be touching real skin yet but i find it to be much more motivating than doing anything on rubber/fruit.

nice to meet you too Daz, im considering premium, just got some other bills to pay first :p

(Engages lie mode  ) it was my machines i was great from the start... (Lie mode disengaged)...

These guys showed me how bad i really was, but they did it in a constructive and structured way, now i feel im half an artist after only a few months. Plus I have a great Mentor on here ;) I have done a couple of decent pieces on a friend and a cover or two on myself, presently reworking another, but i did nothing until i had learnt all that i mentioned before. You will soon get there mate, its not you being crappy, its just lack of practice and knowledge, we all start the same.

Not much more to add, what needs to be said has been said...

There is no timeline to when you are ready to touch skin, i personally spent at least a couple of months with a pencil in my machine and just drawing on paper getting used to the weight then at least 3-4 months on fruit and then another 6 months on pig skin before i ever touched skin, my first try on skin was a very simple design done in white ink on my own thigh (which is now hidden under a cherry blossom)... we've all got bills to pay bro but the nominal fee for premium should be seen as an investment not a fee, it is well worth it.

Agree with JP, there is no timeline. I also used a pencil in a machine. My teacher insisted on it. As Goldwing said, learn how to tune your machines. Learn about the throw, need depth etc. A shader machine is fine to pack color in, packing color is a different technique all together. Youtube has a ton of videos on all of this stuff. Now some of those idiots on youtube are just that, idiots. You might have to weed through a bunch of them, read the comments. The no ink under the scab could also be that you overworked the area and now have scarring. You really shouldn't have scabbing at all. If it is scar tissue do not go back through it and try to fix it up for a long while. Tattooing over scars is hit or miss, do some research on that before attempting it. Proper aftercare is a must also. It is hard to tell in your avatar picture as i can't seem to blow it up bigger. How long did it take to heal completely? Was it really red around the piece for a while? Research research research. Don't be in a rush to tattoo yourself or somebody else. Stick with the pencil for now, you can do a lot with a pencil. My teacher basically gave me tests weekly on different techniques, drawing, knowledge etc. If i failed at something i had to learn it and know it by the next time he tested me. My first tattoo was a name right above a woman's breast, i was excited and scared all together. If anybody tells you that oh tribal is easy or this and that is easy to start with. You have to have the color packing skills for tribal. I say that because i was told that before I got into the shop I learned at. None of it is easy. Best of luck to you. I hope this helps you. If you have any questions, there seems to be a lot of very nice and knowledgable artists here who will answer them for you. Sorry everybody I am long winded. Cheers

Please don't use that Chinese ink in skin. Was reading a study that the Chinese ink may be toxic. Only use that for practice. You can get Starbrite Inks on amazon. I personally love Starbrite. Intenze ink is one of the best also. You may run into a problem trying to order from the Tattoo Supply Companies not being in a shop. Start with a primary set. That's all you need at first.

mark & i have our differences sometimes, that's to be expected.
i have learned a lot from him as well.

so from someone that has had arguments & debates with the guy - he is def not a jerk. opinionated & blunt - sometimes, yea. he has earned that though.

helpful? in almost every post he makes.

a lot of people wanting to start tattooing don't want to hear the truth & being blunt is often the best way to go.... if simply to keep someone from screwing up someone else. remember these are not stickers - these are life altering procedures.... good, or bad... that is up to the artist & their preparation & skill.

LOL...haven't been here in a while and this was the first thing I saw...I LOVE IT!!! :)

I'm kind of a jerk for sure...but that post isn't why. The reality is there is one thing that keeps ink from staying where it belongs, and that's technique. I like that your first post was calling me names...kinda makes me all warm and fuzzy in side. :)
