Welcome to the forum, I was advised to use round shaders when I first started as they are less likely to cause any damage to the skin.I now use mags more than round shaders but It takes lots of practice, personally I prefer mags for soft shading and blending but I still use also use Round shaders. If you practice everyday on pig skin you will soon get used to mags and probably prefer them. It really is down to practice, when you figure it out post up some pictures of you work so that everyone can see it, that way you will get some good advice. Good luck.

Welcome.

It's funny, I'm the opposite of Patrick. When I started out I tore up skin with round shaders (my fault, not the needles) so I switched to mags exclusively. As I progress, I'm finding that I really like what I can do with a round shader and I'm using them for whip shading and tight fills. I still use Mags for larger areas and big color blends.

If it works for you, it's right for you. That's the best advice I can give.

Agree with above. I started with rounds and was scared to use mags because I chewed up a couple of my friends with them. Now I prefer mags. I use a 7 and 15 round mag and love them.
