Hi. New member to the site and been tattooing for 3yrs. So...I've been using 14 tight round liner for quite a few tattoos and Ive encounterd undesired results. Lines take multiple passes to look decent even than the lines arent "sharp" also after healing a few friends say the lines are faded...and they are. I've adjusted my liner machine the voltage my speed my technique even reconstructed my liner machine(capacitor spring contact screw etc). I mean I don't wanna rule out my 14rl's because I ordered so many but WHAT DO I DO? Is it the needle grouping? My machine? My technique? 14 round liner...a Go or No go?

This is a joke right?

Dude, if you are some 'pro' who has come on here to try and rock the boat then you have no place here.

On the other hand, if you are genuine (which I highly doubt) you need to put your machine down and spend a while reading up on this forum.

We are real friendly on this site, why not tell us a little more about yourself as you are new? Its common practice to introduce yourself if you are new and tell us a little about yourself.

Hope this helps,

Dave

He's saying it is a joke as you stated that you have been tatting for 3 years and don't know about needle groupings :icon_confused:

You've used that needle for a few tattoos and getting bad results. Bad results mean change something. If you've changed everything except the needle size then that would be the obvious next step?

But also depends on designs and styles. People can help better if you had pics of designs and results.

Tattooing for 3 yrs .... on people??
You use some needles and get bad results on ... other people???
Sorry, I'm just an old beginner but ....

first of all you test your needles, ink and machine on PIGSKIN .... not real humans ....

if its not the machine ...maybe it is the ink ..... or ... which needles did you buy and where??
IF you get bad results with those needles (some cheap ones) it does not matter how many you have bought ... you trash them all ... you don't reuse or resell them .. TRASH them ...

buy GOOOD quality needles and buy GOOOOD ink ....

just my 5 cent

Look dude, I am sorry to have come across as rude and sorry that you have not been made to feel welcome. There are some really great people on this site (I'm sure I don't come across that way right now) :icon_neutral:

In the 'Introduce yourself' section, people generally post up a little bit of background in regards to themselves and tattooing. All you have stated is that you have been tattooing for 3 years and are having trouble with lines from a 14 tight(!) - on humans and you don't wanna throw them out as you bought a load of them? - How many? 50? I'm sure you haven't purchased more than 50 of anysize without trying them first and f they were from a reliable source, i'm sure they will have a couple of years before expiry and you have the time to find a use for them.

I apologise for being rude and hope we can start again. We are all here to help and learn from each other, I just thought that if you have been tattooing for 3 years, including people, you would have had a good idea of what the problem could be?

Lets start again

It takes a large amount of rear spring tension to push a 14rl. Generally liners should be tuned and synced according to hand speed and needle grouping. A fast liner tuned to push 3-7 liners probably won't achieve the same results if you load a 14rl and use the same hand speed. I've found by tuning a liner to run at a slower speed say (105-115 cps) loaded with a solid hit combined with a slower hand speed will help out. Play with rear spring tensions a bit till you get comfortable. My suggestion to push a 14rl would be to use .18-.20 springs with around 500-600 grams tension, running at 110-115 cps loaded. If the design doesn't call for numerous thick lines such as Japanese and rather a few solid lines such as new school then I'd suggest to
build your thick lines. You can get a thick line by using a 5-7 round shader and move in tight small circles to build your line. However you can't use a fast liner machine to do this (or you will tear shit up). Use a medium stroke shader machine with medium hit and presto...bold lines.
