Hi everyone,
I've noticed a few posts about how to apply a stencil to fake skin.
I apply my stencil to fake skin using undiluted Dettol....put a little Dettol onto a paper towel and then rub it onto the surface of the fake skin...leave it for half a minute and then place the stencil, The stencil should come out nice and crisp unless you have used too much of the dettol and it was still wet on the fake skin.
I usually leave it to dry overnight and find that it is nearly impossible to wipe the stencil off.
When tattooing the design on the fake skin, the excess ink and stencil can be wiped off by smearing vaseline over the inked area and wiping firmly.
I don't know if Dettol is available under that name in the USA, but I know it is in the UK and Australia.

Hope this info helps.

Thank you! I applied a few stencils tonight and think my dettol was still wet. I could barely see a thing! 😂

All I'm saying is TALC POWDER. That solves AAAALL issues with applying stencils on fake skin.
What do you do with it Malin? Apply stencil primer (Dettol, Stencil Stuff/ Speed Stick etc) then place stencil then sprinkle Talc Powder over it?

No, I apply apply stencil solution, spread a little talc powder over it- usually I blend them a little too with my hand on the sheet and spread it evenly - then apply the stencil. It's a dramatic difference. The result is like applying a stencil on human skin.

You always have to wipe off the grease on the Reelskin sheet before applying stencil solution. Just like on human skin. Preferably with alcohol/disinfectant or likewise.

A good thing with talc powder is you don't have to wait to let the stencil solution dry enough but not too much, and you don't have to wait to let the stencil dry enough but not too much (to not make it stick so much that you don't get rid of it) and all that fuss.

Hey Mulliga do you have any videos of your stencil transfer technique? I just tried using talc and dettol and it wasn't any different unfortunately. Feel like I may have done this wrong.

Unfortunately I don't have a video, but I recall now (after Girlie666 reminded me) that what I did was this:

1. Clean sheet with water and soap.
2. Wipe sheet with disinfectant (to get all grease off).
3. Wipe sheet with paper, make sure the sheet becomes completely dry.
4. Spread talc powder over the sheet. Spread it a little carefully with your hand too, it's enough with only a thin layer of talc.
5. Apply a little amount of stencil solution on sheet. Talc and solution will mix but that's okay.
6. Apply stencil.

I never used Dettol for stencils so I can't tell if that works with talc powder or not. Maybe Girlie666 knows?

I’ve never used it with dettol… I’ve also started using old spice deodorant stick for applying stencils… instead of using my anchored stencil solution… that works out great too… I don’t use talc for that tho x

dettol and it was still wet on the fake skin.
So with dettol you want to use a 50/50 mixture and spray it onto the fake skin and rub it in then let it sit until it becomes tacky, then place the stencil. The downside to using dettol is it can take up to 24 hours before the stencil will stick.

I imagine talc powder must be a help then with Dettol too 🙂

Hi All,

Well, I didn't have Talcum powder on hand but stumbled upon a winner trying different things, might help someone out there.

Pomade worked brilliantly, not sure if every brand will work the same but made a really bold transfer and after leaving to airdry for some time, I can't rub it off easily at all, this is without vaseline applied yet. Just rubbing vigorously with a finger takes a lot to even smudge.

I used Suavecito Firm Holde Pomade, water soluble.

1. As above, I rubbed hand sanitizer cleaning the practice with a paper towel and dried it with another paper towel.
2. Applied a small dollop of Pomade massaging it evenly creating a thin layer across the practice skin.
3. Place the transfer stencil sheet on top of the skin to apply the stencil
4. Use a wet wipe to rub/dab gently across the top of the stencil sheet making it damp, avoid getting it too wet.
5. Peel of sheet and leave the practice skin & newly transferred design to dry, I waited about 30 minutes, and, voila!

Pomade for practice skin tattoo stencil transfer:

Product: Suavecito Firme Hold

Ingredients: Water, ceteareth-25, glycerin, PEG-7 glyceryl cocoate, PEG 4 hydrogentated castor oil, fragrance, hydantoin caramel, simethicone, PVP, PEG-8 beeswax, propylene glycol, methylparaben, polysorbate 20

I’m allergic to Talc, Will any other powder work? Baby powder, cornstarch? Thank you!

I haven't tried, but I figure the importance is the substance makes the stencil solution "less wet", so I would definitely try it if I were you! I would try any powdery substance I'd have at home. Not too grainy maybe, but other than just go for it 😊👍🏼 And let us know the result!
