Hi, I'm new to the whole tattoo machine set-up, and have tried cheap Amazon coils, then moved onto cheap rotary machines (all on fake skin). I currently use a CNC P6, a Mast Flash rotary and a knock off bishop v6 direct drive with Rhein, Mast Pro, Kwadron, and GoodGuyTattoo cartridges. Inks are Dynamic Black, Triple Black and World Famous color inks.

I wanted to find a affordable machine with "give" on the git, and came across a few options that include rotaries with "shrapnel" springs, from OG Rotary and Yilong Rotary X6.

Has anyone used something like this? Or can anyone provide insight on what shrapnel is or does in a rotary machine? Or is this just a marketing thing to get people like me to buy a machine?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
