He recommends paper and pencil (attached in a machine), but of course you can use needle, machine and ink as well.

Help with Lines...
I've gotten help over the last few months and I think it's important to pass along that knowledge so others can grow from it as well. Here is the lesson that did wonders for my line work even before I began working into the 1r. Take this image and print it out about 4x4 or so...no...

Here’s one I made when my niece wanted to start tattooing. After the lining in multiple directions I had her practising different shading techniques within the shapes.
For myself, I downloaded loads of google and Pinterest images based on ‘tattoo outline’ and ‘tattoo stencil’ searches. I just kept repeating different designs with different degrees of lining challenge. Understanding lining principles is crucial, but after that there’s no substitute for doing and doing again.
