Hello everyone,
I wonder why my lines disappearing at some tattoos after healing. I think my depth is uneven but i don't experience this at every tattoo i do. Sometimes they heal really well with the same technique. I'm not sure but as i observe, i experience this problem with lines that are bigger than 5rl. Minimals with 3-5rl and 1rl fine line tattoos heal really well no matter how detailed they are. Is my machine weak for bigger lines? I'm using mast tour pro. In this tattoo i used my coil machine mostly. What do you think my problem is? Am i not stretching the skin enough? Maybe uneven depth? I feel ashamed about the result but i'm going to add picture, i really want to understand what my problem is. pic 1 pic 2

Typically this is a depth issue…but can be speed too. I’ve sometimes finished a tattoo thinking all was fine, but then looked at the photo and noticed what I call ‘ghost lines’, lines that just look a bit lighter or less dense than the rest of the piece. I then have to do a touch up.

I messaged one guy the same day and warned him about a section of line that was about 5mm long, I sent him the pic too. Sure enough he was back 6 weeks later just to have that small section tickled back in.

While depth is key to getting uniform thickness in lines, based on how much of the needle point is entering the skin, your speed can affect saturation. Even at the right depth you can move too quickly and get a broken line, where the dots are not necessarily connecting.

My advice would be to regulate your depth so you're not blowing out, even a tad higher than normal, and move deliberately slowly. I found that this results in solidly filled lines that don’t need a rework. Be careful about slicing the skin (too slow) but if your depth is ok moving slower than normal will probably help with this problem. Practise on fake skin for a while until you get steady and consistent.

Also: If you need to reline a broken line, moving slow at a shallower depth is normally enough to achieve a perfect fill. Don’t be tempted to go back in at full depth or you’re likely to cause some damage. Again, practise this technique of fake. Tickle it in on the second pass.

My first thought was that it may be a stretch issue, but can also be machine speed or hand speed ....nothing here that can't be fixed by going over it again when fully healed.

I don't want to stress you, but you should really correct that as soon as possible.
Speed or depht, for sure, as Whippet daid there should be a common looking in all of your lines.
I'm telling you to work on that problem asap because i had the bad surprise of seeing ALL my first tattoos (around 8 of them) fading away on multiple clients, after 6 months!!!!
Lucky enough they were only family and friends, but coming back at a tattoo can be an hassle and a way to oversturate your old works.

Only guessing but maybe you should stretch more. Looking at the leaves, the packing seems weak too.

Peace,
