Hi all,

Practicing "Floating the needle" with correct hand positions, controlling speed & steady constant movements, technical application and depositing ink under skin layer correctly in line with stencils line.

Not an easy task to put all those technical aspects together.

Also practiced joining long lines.

Some lines are still weak and were corrected, but it looks even worse.

I have a question - when you move your hand does your force/strength to move machine/neddle comes from a wrist, elbow or forearm?

?12.03.RL ??

Shoulder :)
Grab a pencil, lock your wrist, look where you want to go, and go there without thinking about it. You'll notice your shoulder does the work when you don't think about it and you don't let your wrist move.

that looks like a really great exercise piece. i am interested to see you repeat it in a couple months to see the improvement.

I try my best to move from my shoulder, learned that from other media. it's not always realistic/practical for me doing tattoos. i think it would be ideal if i could do it 100% of the time though.

Thanks for your advices

I was using shoulder too, and it was coming out quite naturally, but for some unknown reason I was forcing myself to focus on the push from elbow and forearm.

I really like this piece and will definitely repeat few more times with different neddles.

Your shoulder will take care of all of the side to side/circular motion and your elbow will assist in the front to back motion, but still be led by the shoulder. Don't ask me why I'm such an anatomy nerd. :ROFLMAO:

ideally from the shoulder, also try to slide your hand on vaseline. :)
About the vaseline, i guess it goes well with fake skin but this in an habit i would try to loose when transfering unto real skin.
I say that because i spent a lot of time reducing my ammount of vaseline, having too much of it everywhere was making my stretch more and more difficult > greasy gloves.

Basha Blacke : you have quite woobly lines (you forgot one on the top of the head btw), what worked for me was to lock my hand/wrist, without stressing with too much force on holding the machine.
Doing so, it's like a dead hand holding the machine, and your elbow-shoulder moving it over the skin.
It helped me to keep a good depht, since my fingers are not forging the lines but are kinda staying still.

Also, you can stop your breath when starting the line, and slowly inhale during the line (used in photography and by snipers to stay still).

Then, you can train over a piece of paper, with a mechanical pencil, to do straight lines, and try to keep the same ammount of pressure.
I would advise to use a printed version of some lines-only designs, in 15% grey (very light), so you can follow it as a stencil and verify if you stay over it.

One last thing you can try is to keep the same speed for each and every line, i found it very helping to maintain some kind of consistency.

Peace,

DKJ

Dzikichrzan DKJ ~ Thanks for your comments.

I tried vaseline edge of my palm and in some way it helped but on the other it makes my skin's sheet greasy and mess with my stencil.

II like the idea with paper and mech. pencil practice. It will definitely save me some f. skins and neddles :)

You know you can re-use needles on fake skin, right?
Also, you can tattoo both sides.

Peace,
