So I just recently started tattooing a while ago. And recently I’m finding myself in a very fortunate situation where people are actually coming to me to get work done that is within my style(New school and neo trad) and I’m really thrilled about It. But a Problem I’ve always had particularly when it comes to my new school tattoos is I struggle to put in big bold lines. I’m not only finding it difficult to apply them first pass but even when I do it’s not as bold as I’d like it to be so I find myself having to sculpt. But I’m really struggling with sculpting too it Either never looks even, or end up overdoing it and I’m finding myself really frustrated /: So any advice on how I can improve this aspect of my Work would be much appreciated.

Btw as for my tools I use a Cheyenne hawk thunder with gold standard electrum carts/ as well as the Cheyenne carts.

You could try a lot of things. For big one pass lines you could try medium tights (if they have them) Round shaders (wich can heal fuzzy)or just bigger needles and shorter tapers. If you arent worried about the fuzz, a 9rs (or a lit 9rl to open it) puts in a good bold line.

Also, remember for big groupings, GOOD stretch and work slow.

In the end there is no right and wrong, just trial and error. Keep experimenting with different setups and techniques until you find something that works and you are comfortable with :)

guess it depends on how big is big

an 18rs will throw in a super fat line
parallels 3rl filled by a 9rs works
2 9rs side by side never sucks

Personally, I love using a 9rl and if i need to build it up I will. But that isn't the "right" way...just my way. :)
