Little bit of background.Super new at this Using a dirt cheap set up and a 1203rl needle. My lines look finde during the piece (test skin) but when I wipe away excess ink it’s barely there. I’ve altered things like machine and hand speed but hasn’t helped much. Doing small circles instead of a steady line is getting me somewhat consistent thicker line. What am I doing wrong here. Also an additional probably stupid question. I bought some additional needles mostly shader and tried lining with those. It was better but the tube that they fit has no back for lack of a better word so it catches when going certain directions. How do I fix that? Sorry if this is too long or stupid in its nature.

Hi Aaron,

There are quite a few issues here.
Just to check..you are using fake skin ? (test skin)
First is a 3rl is very fine anyway, but maybe depth is a problem. it also sounds like your set up is off as in correct size tube with correct needle, and is needle even in correct way? why is it catching? what tubes are you using? also direction and angle of machine may be an issue. Also doing circles and lines are for 2 different things so maybe stick to one for one thing.

My honest advice is read lots lots more and you will fix some very basic issues have...and please dont tattoo real people.

Had no intention of tattooing real people anytime soon lol. But to answer a few questions. Yes I’m using synthetic skin. Two as far as if the needle is in correctly all I’ve had to go on so far is the instructions that came with the machine. I e done a lot of research but it’s been hard to find specific answers. As for the tubes one is a simple round tube the other is for what I would assume is magnums but unlike all the tubes I’ve seen for those online. One face of this tube is completely open so I can drag toward the open face when lining or the needle catches.

If the needle "Catches" that is a good sign of too much needle hang.
