Ok so I’ve ran into a couple of issues when doing my first portrait on fake skin.
1) The stencil will not come off! I’ve tried alcohol and bleach. It’s just not budging.
2) my shading isn’t smooth. I don’t quite know what I’m doing wrong?

Any help appreciated!

That's always a problem with stencil on fake skin ? First it's hard to get it on, then you never get it off. Try putting it in bleach face down for 24h. On Reelskin it works, I'm not sure that's what you have here though (looks like it though).

About smooth shading - you have to be more light on your hand and practice more. Nothing else to it really ?

That's must be the best idea by Maliga! I didnt get to work with fake skin very much, only once! I always give my apprentices pig's skin, and even pig skin can hold stenill waaay to well :)

ffs someone make a sticky about how to stencil fake skin...

it's pretty simple apply the stencil transfer gel, i find stencil stuff or speedstick work best. then hit it with a hairdryer for 30 seconds until dry. wait 10-30 minutes depending on how dark you want it, and then wipe it all off with alcohol. there should be a light stencil permanently dyed into the canvas.

also for smooth shading, just practice more. usually takes a few weeks if not months to get the hang of it

I assumed they were waiting to see if it was going in your book. Maybe with a video lecture and monthly subscription for future updates to go with it. Hell, you might not even have to tattoo anymore with all the money you'll be bringing in.

Thanks Malliga, it worked! I was rubbing with bleach rather than leaving it on.

Just don't answer the question if you're fed up with them?

yeah the best idea is to wipe the stencill off in the beggining once you dry it with hairdryer, but as you see bleach works quite good somtims :) I recently start one practice portrait piece of chucky doll and i realize how pore is my tehnique to get smooth shading and gradients ;/// practice i guess xd

I left it on for 24 hours haha, just cause normally it smudges so bad when I'm working so just wanted it to stay on. I'll try that next time

i was told to go over the shading with a big curved mag and your light wash to smooth out all the different shades ,give that a try as a 7 mag is fair small
Ahhh thank you, I’ll give it a go!!

Sorry to revive an old thread, but what you're saying Dazza, is to do the entire shading in whichever needle and wash darkness I'm using, then go over the whole bunch in a light wash and big curved mag? My shading is poor but I really need to get some practice on it. I'll post some pics later on for everybody to see though.
Thanks mate
