I paint stuff a little different sometimes, hope you guys enjoy this one. Just finished it after about 2 years of being on my wall.

Its going to be in a COVID gallery showing / exhibition too. Can't wait.

that, I like.

love the use of the white line work. some of the elements i'm lost on... but that doesn't matter to me in this piece.

the one thing that doesn't sit right for me though is the highlights on the drips.... instead of long white lines, less is more. the very verticleness & boldness of the white against the darker makes that area noisy. maybe that's why some of the elements in that area lose me. On the flip of that though - it is a very "graphic" way to paint the drips... so it's not "wrong"... just my least favorite part of the piece

For sure, I actually agree from a texture standpoint definitely would have looked better with a muted style of highlighting it. Its a reflective silver color atm so it definitely stand out against it a bit.

This was just something for people that like trippy / hallucinatory stuff originally and slowly turned into my expressionism take on covid19 bs.

This one is prolly more your style. This one was more color study and symbolism. Called it The Pandemic. Its gonna be in same show.

Its also the one that got me in the masters program ?

yea.
I like it, & more so. I would normally like to think the eye/white would hold my eye because of the pure boldness against the rest of it & as a result I would miss the rest of the piece.... but it doesn't. My eye is all over the place & I dig it.

something about the orange & green to me though... more so the orange. I can't place it. It seems either muddy or the value of it is too similar to the red. If you grey scale your photo... the black & grey should be as visually interesting/have contrast in the basic value in grey. The green only works for me I think because it's the compliment to red which dominates & is a nice balance.

Especially with this being a bit of a color study... why did you choose the orange & green? I can guess green (symbolize pandemic? opposite the red?). I don't know what I would even suggest for the orange part though... i'm kinda stuck. probably a warm but darker purple to contrast the cool ochre with out competing w/the eye or pushing the red away. ???

The way you shadowed & layered the slashing of the red is excellent. I do a lot of slashes in my original pieces too. it's usually just in black though & i may incorporate some of this if I ever get to be an artist again.

The apocalyptic green/ochre background is spot on as well imo.

Orange is a symbol for fear in Taiwan.
This was heavily influenced by the band Chthonic and they're from Taiwan. So it was just me thinking about how people are feeling.

Also, ya I wanted the eye to be the focal point but not so much that the whole image lost weight.

A lot of my work is based on emotions when I paint stuff. I actually hated the orange after I put it because it was supposed to be metallic but I now know not to buy from that company ?

Should mention that top red was a custom color I mixed thats why its so bright compared to the lower layers. I love color theory, so always just mix and mix stuff until it looks dope or complimentary to the rest of the piece

well then good choice on the orange then. as far as metallic... old school flakes. :D If i had time & space I would love to have a lot of different media so I could just mix & experiment.

I have always been a fan of red. I would actually like a sick ass trash polka piece on my ribs maybe. I know a lot of people don't like it... but to me it is very punk roc & very tattoo (coming from a 45yo that wears fitted dress shirts to work).

& i like everything you did w/red there.

i agree on color theory. it's especially important in tattoos to get colors to appear vibrant & bold when they need to. (like instead of a black background for a space scene that has an orange planet... work in various blues against the planet in the form of a nebula or something).

I actually love trash polka. You should look up Xoil tattoos if you haven't. Their work is ridiculous.

Your participation in the COVID gallery exhibition is not only a testament to your talent but also an opportunity to share your interpretation with a broader audience.
If you're still seeking creative inspiration, I recently delved into an intriguing concept: Word Art prints. They offer a fascinating blend of language and visual artistry. I ordered some for myself and was pleasantly surprised by how words could be transformed into captivating visuals.
These prints might add an interesting dimension to your artistic journey. You can explore them further at Word Art Prints - Word Art Prints - Word Art App. Keep up the fantastic work, and best of luck with your exhibition.
