Large and Small Plungers Are for the cartridge needle to be on the of the grip.
The tube inside your grip or maybe you have a whole entire piece. There are separate tubes and grip's specific to long plungers. The longer the plunger. The longer in repetition for The needle to cycle. The shorter the plunger the faster cycle- faster the needle.
If you don't know what this means. Research more on knowledge of the coil machine!
To use a plunger os already skilled knowing your coil machine and knowing how too use it.
Setting up your Needle depth is crucial. The better the machine. But plungers should be used for Rotary Tattoo Machines. Everyone is different.

Just on this, and not trying to be antagonistic, the plunger length makes no difference to the hit rate (CPS or Hz), this variable is determined by the air gap on a coil machine and the volts on a rotary (stroke length on rotaries changes the speed at which the needle hits the skin, but not the hit rate (Hz)). Volts to Hz is different on different machines/motors, so don’t rely on 8V (for example) on one machine achieving the same Hz on a different machine. I posted on here recently showing how to measure your Hz with a guitar tuner app.

Different length plungers (bars) simply connect the motion to the cartridge plunger (plastic nipple) at different heights. I use pen style now but I used carts with traditional rotaries (if that’s even a thing) and only changed the length of the push rod (or plunger) when I used different grips. Key to the metal bar plunger length is ensuring it remains in contact with the cartridge plunger at all times and that you’re able to achieve your shortest and maximum throw (different to stroke length).
