I’ve applied to a shop just over a month ago and haven’t heard or seen any news about the apprenticeship. Is it weird or rude to check up and see where they’re at in the hiring process?
Should I call and ask a shop about my application?

You never know if you don't ask. Pop in, they can only be positive or negative, the fact that you went in and asked at least shows you are serious and want to get in. If they say no, look for another, but never let your enthusiasm drop. Go for it.
