Bought a Mast Flip pen thinking it would be alright to play with. Arrived today popped an 11rs in and it wouldn't run?! Put a 9rl in wouldn't run... a 5rl... wouldn't run! Tries with multiple power sources and she powers up but as soon as a needle is in nothing. Any ideas?!

So it runs with no cartridge in?
Try and turn the body as if you are adjusting the needle depth in case the cartridge is too close to the the plunger bar, also try and rotate the minimum and maximum throw to see if that makes a difference.
I presume that your power supply has the amperage to run rotaries.

I’m with @marked4life, that was also my thought.

My Xion refuses to start at either end of the give adjustment and I’ve had other machines (such as Stigma Hyper) that struggle with the tension of some cartridge brands, especially when backed right in (more needle showing).

Also bought some Sabre carts a while back and couldn’t get them to run in any machine without a jump start function….there’s a limit to what a motor can push.

Good luck!

Probably just a case of fiddling with it Sally, as the others have said,.....needle size and type shouldn't make a difference.... make sure you have the cartridge inserted properly and twisted into lock position.
I have problems with some Cartridge grips that I use, they are used for when you want to use a cartridge needle with a coil or rotary machine, sometimes the push bar slips in beside the stem on the cartridge instead of pushing on top of the stem, and the whole thing jams up, I don't know if this can happen with a pen machine.

Thanks Pete. Will have a play when my kiddo is asleep and see how I go. Thanks all for advice appreciated as always 😊
