Stephi Wright began sharing her story online back in 2017, living out of her car in California. Having always been interested in art and traveling, she made videos both about her passion for exploring - and her struggle with cystic fibrosis.
Today, she is a full-time professional tattoo artist in North Carolina, living out a dream she’s had for over a decade, feeling the stronger than she ever has before.
Stephi Started Out Vlogging
Before starting Tattooing 101, Stephi made videos about her life, working her way from living in her car to renovating a van and traveling the world.
Everywhere she went, she always found somewhere to draw. But in the back of her mind, she always wanted to become a tattoo artist.
However, despite her positivity and adventurous outlook on life, Stephi knew cystic fibrosis meant her time was limited. She didn’t consider the idea of a long-term career because of her health, until she found a new medication, sharing with her viewers that - all of a sudden - her life expectancy was much longer.
After another year of traveling and one of building a permanent home, Stephi decided it was finally time to pursue the career she’d wanted since she was 13 years old.
Online Learning Offered a New Adventure
Stephi wanted to learn how to tattoo online and found the Artist Accelerator Program. She began working through the modules, eventually moving onto fake skin, while building a list of tattoo studios she dreamed of working in.
After practicing on her own, Stephi then moved on to real skin, taking on her first few clients. And just 8 months after beginning the Artist Accelerator Program, the tattoo studio at the top spot of her list reached out to her, offering her a spot in their shop
Stephi now works there full time, where she’s taking on custom pieces in her signature black-and-gray style and getting invited to guest spot. And she did it all while building her health and happiness to create a life she truly loves.
Stephi’s Year-Long Journey
Stephi went against the “traditional” tattoo apprenticeship path to speed up her learning, and take things at her own pace. Because of that choice, she was able to learn much faster than the average new artist.
Stephi’s entire journey from beginning the Artist Accelerator Program to getting her dream job at her dream shop was just one year. Now, she’s able to focus on what she loves while enjoying more artistic freedom.
