Brock knew he wanted to get into the tattoo industry, but he didn’t know where to start. In the area where he lives, a tattoo apprenticeship was necessary to start working as an artist - but he didn’t know how to convince an artist that he was ready to take that first step into the industry.
With Tattooing 101, he built out a portfolio of his drawings and tattoos on fake skin, getting him into a shop instantly and putting him ahead of the game as an apprentice. Shortly after, Brock broke off to start his own studio, where he now makes more while working less.Beginning His Tattoo Journey
Brock didn’t know how to start his journey in the tattoo world. He didn't have much experience and didn't know where to begin. To make things tougher, where he lived, you needed an apprenticeship to get into tattooing, and those were hard to come by.
Finding a Supportive Tattoo Community
Brock found Tattooing 101 while searching online. What really motivated him to sign up was the supportive and encouraging environment he saw in the Tattooing 101 Mastermind Group, which he wasn’t able to find in any of the tattooing Facebook groups he was already in.
Additionally, the course itself offered a clear learning structure. It filled in the gaps and gave Brock the missing pieces of information he couldn't find anywhere on Google or YouTube.
Building a Strong Portfolio
Brock dove straight into the Artist Accelerator Program. He dove into the tattoo design modules, filling an entire binder with original designs before perfecting his technique on fake skin.
His dedication was clear, and it didn't go unnoticed. A local tattoo artist saw Brock's potential and offered him an apprenticeship. Because of the skills Brock had already developed, he was able to speed through the apprenticeship faster than most. Before long, he was working in the shop, doing tattoos professionally and loving every moment of it.
Opening His Own Tattoo Studio
His setup in the shop was exciting at first, but the reality was that Brock was on a 50/50 split, meaning his "booth rent" often amounted to a staggering $4-5K a month. After paying this and accounting for taxes, Brock found himself pocketing a lot less than he'd anticipated.
He made the decision to branch out on his own. He opened his own private studio, Omnificent Tattoo Studio, and the difference was like night and day. Without the burden of the massive booth rent, he was able to retain all of his earnings.
Brock now works fewer hours, enjoys a heftier income, and revels in a much more flexible schedule with more free time to indulge in personal interests and relax.
